Pickering Real Estate Profile

Feb. 25, 2005: Pickering Real Estate Profile - Pickering is located in Durham region, 40 km east of downtown Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario. The quaint towns of Whitevale, Greenwood, Cherrywood, Claremont and Brougham in north Pickering reflect the rustic characteristics of this region. At the same time, there is a wide choice of shopping, entertainment and restaurant options.

You can get to Pickering by taking Highway 401 or Highway 407. For a more relaxing drive from the east or west of Pickering you can take Highway 2, which is Ontario's old Heritage Highway.

In 2001, Pickering has a population of 87,139 residents. Its population is 50 percent higher than it was 10 years ago. People from Canada and around the world have moved into the area, making the city culturally and ethnically diverse.

There are many events throughout the year in Pickering, with enough variety to please everyone. For example, on February 5 there is a Band Night for Teens at the Petticoat Community Centre. In March, there is the Annual Pickering Hockey Association "AE" tournament. As well, the Seniors Month Big Band event is in June, and of course Canada Day Celebrations on July 1.

Housing in Pickering is beautiful and affordable. There is a lot of green space surrounding the city, as well as the cherished waterfront. Three bedroom single family homes range from $153,000 to $900,000. Two bedroom condominiums (including apartments and townhouses) range from $153,000 to $295,000.
